Black is eternal
Black Is Eternal is an exploration of classic Black literature through dramatic performance and visualization. Written pieces including poetry, prose, and excerpts from books, plays, and movies are performed by local actors under the direction of Vincent Powell. Each day of Black History Month, a new video is posted to 7972 Films’ social media profiles. The goal of Black is Eternal is to communicate that our ancestors’ art, beauty, pain, tenacity, and love lives on in us and will continue to live on through future generations - it’s eternal.

4/13/22"The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window" by Lorraine Hansberry
I started performing this monologue in my senior year of high school, my roughest year. I never felt more alive than when I recited these words. I tribute today’s #BlackIsEternal to my high school Theatre Arts teacher, who watered so much of the creative seed that was planted in me, Freddie L. Buckner. Mr. Buckner also would tour me and 15 other students to churches and schools every day in February to perform Black songs, dances, and monologues..... so this series as a whole is a fitting tribute.
Also, I’d like to shoutout to my sister @delightedsoul who was a hell of a lighting technician during our performances of Young, Gifted, and Black— though the UIL judge disagreed during the OAP competition and didn’t advance us and blamed part of it on her not blacking out the lights quick enough after this monologue finished. 😂

For nearly as long as Black people have been in America, lynching has been as well. Introduced as a form of capital punishment for slaves and sympathizers, after the end of slavery it became a jovial and communal way of killing Blacks and making examples to the wider communities. Horrific at every turn.
